A Caymanian in the country of Gareth Bale

The 21 years-old left winger Anthony Nelson played the 2018-2019 season for Llanelli Town AFC

Anthony Nelson was born in George Town in Grand Cayman and since his 10 years old he played football for
Tigers FC. His debut in the CIFA Premier League happened when he was only at 15-16 years old. He joined
Valparaiso University in the United States in season 2016/2017. His first time playing in Europe happen in
when he joined English-side Bognor Regis in season 2017/2018.

Nelson completed season 2018/2019 playing for Llaneli Town AFC in JD Welsh Premier League with 20
matches and one assist. The opportunity to play in Wales came through his agent, Thomas Boyo. “I originally
went into preseason with a Welsh club in the second division. However at the end of July I was offered to play
a preseason game with Llanelli, which fortunately went well. And I signed for the 18/19 season”, he explained.
I have been playing in Wales just one year but spent the season before playing in England.

The life in Wales

Llanelli Town area very small and quiet and there was not a lot to do so he was more focused on football as
there were no distractions. When wasn’t training with the team, was on the gym or training at his own. Besides
that he would just watch Netflix or be on his PS4.

Football in Cayman Island X Wales

The caymanian footballer said there are too many diffences between the football in european country despite
caribbean island so he mentions some. In Wales the fitness level are far higher when in CIFA Premier league
you have a lot of time to think the game.  “If you don’t know exactly what you are going to do before you get it,
you’ll just lose the ball every time”, commented. He think that the football in the land of Garrett Bale is thought
since the base as the feels everyone had mastered all the basics of the game: controlling, passing, movement.
In cayman we didn’t have that level of coaching growing up however the football in the island is growing.

CONCACAF Nations League

He said that was a great experience, Alfredo Whittaker (CIFA President) and Caymans coaches Alex
Gonzalez and Ben Pugh are transforming football in cayman. For a while he thought about playing for
Honduras who he is qualified for through my mother.  “I stepped on the field against Montserrat, I knew I’d
made the right decision. I’m caymanian and it’s a blessing to represent the country I was born and raised in”,
told us.

For the upcoming 2019/2020 season he is about to join a new team but he was misteriously and didn’t told us
more info. Let’s wait to see what waits the young footballer.
